Where to stay in Oviedo, Spain
The best places to stay in Oviedo are the Old Town, where you’ll find most of Oviedo’s main tourist attractions, and the city center. Both areas are in District 1, so you’re very close to all the main tourist attractions.
If your plan is to stay several days and you want to explore the wider Asturias region, staying on the outskirts can also be a great option. It offers a quieter, more relaxed vibe, yet still provides easy access to the city and other nearby destinations. Don’t miss my post on where to stay in Asturias to find out about more areas to book your hotel.
1. Old Town
The old town gives its name to the area where a medieval city once stood. Today you can still see some remains of the wall that protected it from invaders’ attacks. If you decide to stay here, you cannot help but experience the feeling of returning to the past.
Its historical heritage is very important, and special attention and care have been taken to preserve its appearance and spirit. In addition, you can walk through its many cobblestone-covered pedestrian streets in search of some of the city’s many monuments.
The old town of Oviedo is one of the essential places to see on a route through Asturias, and, in addition, it has a lot of life. It offers a wide variety of activities both during the day and at night. If you stay here, you will not only be close to the main attractions of the city but also to a wide variety of bars and restaurants where you can eat well.
During your visit, I recommend booking a free tour of the city. This way, you will be able to learn more about its history. It lasts 2 hours, and you will visit places such as the Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto, the Plaza de la Constitución, the Church of San Isidoro El Real, and the Plaza del Fontán.
Recommended hotels in the Old Town
These are some of the hotels I recommend if you want to stay in this part of the city:
- Low budget: Soho Boutique Oviedo.
- Medium budget: Hotel Fruela.
- High budget: Hotel & Spa Princesa Munia.
2. Center of Oviedo

Staying in district 1, next to the historic center, you can find the downtown area of the city of Oviedo, with a slightly faster pace and a more modern appearance. If you decide to stay in this area, you will have no problem getting to most of the tourist sites without having to use public transportation. The city is the perfect size for getting around on foot.
The city center is an interesting area to stay in Oviedo, especially for those who prefer to stay in a more accessible place. In Uría street, the shopping street par excellence, you will find a large number and variety of stores, from the most popular low-cost brands to the most exclusive ones. There is also an important gastronomic offer.
The center of Oviedo offers more than shopping and gastronomy. This area also has historical sites that will be of interest to you, as well as places exclusively for leisure.
I recommend you visit the Plaza de la Escandalera, where the statue “La Maternidad” by Fernando Botero is located, walk through the Campo San Francisco, and attend an opera at the Teatro Campoamor. This theater is a source of pride for the people of Oviedo because, in addition to having a lot of history, it is the annual venue for the Princess of Asturias Awards.

🏥 Remember it is very important to purchase travel insurance for Spain if you don’t have medical coverage in this country. I always use and recommend Heymondo, where I can offer you your travel insurance 5% cheaper. I recommend this company to travel to any destination but especially Spain because it is a Spanish company so I assure you that you will be in the best hands.
3. Outskirts of Oviedo

My last recommendation is to look for a hotel in the outskirts of Oviedo, especially if you are going to use this city as a base and you are going to travel by car to different places in the Principality of Asturias. In this case, I find it more convenient to stay in the outskirts of the city because you will have better access to the roads and because it is easier to find a hotel that has free parking included.
Recommended hotels in the outskirts
The following hotels are located outside of the city and have free private parking:
- Low to medium budget: Hotel Casa Camila.
- Average budget: Hotel Palacio De La Viñona.
- High budget: Castillo Del Bosque La Zoreda.
